Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, Chief Benjamin Omale, has alleged that the recent attack on the party’s State Legal Adviser, Barr. Terhemen Ngbea, in Abuja was a calculated attempt to kidnap or assassinate him.
Speaking to journalists at the Benue APC Secretariat in Makurdi on Sunday, Omale dismissed the notion that the incident was a random act of violence.
“We have reason to believe this was a targeted attack, aimed at either kidnapping or eliminating him due to the critical role he plays at the Benue Local Government Elections Petition Tribunal currently sitting in Abuja,” he said.
He confirmed that the matter has been reported to security agencies, and the party is cooperating fully with ongoing investigations.
It was gathered that unknown gunmen had trailed Ngbea to a car park in the Central Area of Abuja, where they attacked his vehicle and forcibly opened its door in what appeared to be a coordinated assault.
Ngbea escaped with inflicted injuries, but his vehicle was vandalized, his new laptop, and some documents were carted away.
The Benue APC chairman said the party was disturbed over the attack on the Legal Adviser because he was in Abuja coordinating legal matters at the Local Government Election Tribunal, which was moved from Makurdi to the Federal Capital Territory.
He, however, said Ngbea is in a steady condition after the attack and hope to continue his duty at the Tribunal.
