The Edo State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of His Royal Highness, Friday Ehizojie, the traditional ruler of Udo-Eguare community.
The Onogie of Udo-Eguare, located in the Igueben Local Government Area, was abducted on February 3 while traveling on a commercial motorcycle between Ubiaja and Udo communities. The motorcycle rider who was transporting Ehizojie was tragically shot dead during the attack.
According to the police spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, the monarch was freed on Friday after a continued search and rescue effort by the police and local vigilantes.
“The sustained search and rescue operations have been successful, and we are pleased to announce the safe return of the Onogie,” Yamu stated.
He also praised the efforts of the Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, who fulfilled her promise of rescuing the kidnapped traditional ruler. The success was also credited to the logistical support provided by Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, which facilitated the operations.
The police spokesperson expressed gratitude to the vigilantes, hunters, and the community for their valuable support and reiterated the police force’s ongoing commitment to combating crime in the state.
