Former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola is reportedly being considered for a ministerial position in President Bola Tinubu’s new cabinet, Daily Review Online has learnt.
Reliable sources at the Presidency told our Correspondent that Fashola may be appointed as either the Attorney General of the Federation or the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning.
Fashola, a prominent lawyer and seasoned politician, served as governor from 2007 to 2015, during which he earned recognition for his significant contributions to infrastructure and urban development in Lagos. His experience in governance and legal matters positions him as a strong candidate for either role.
The decision comes as President Tinubu seeks to assemble a team capable of driving the administration’s economic agenda and legal reforms. Fashola’s potential appointment has garnered widespread support from various stakeholders, who view his expertise as crucial for navigating Nigeria’s complex legal and economic landscape.
While an official announcement is pending, Fashola’s involvement in the cabinet could signal a renewed focus on sustainable economic planning and legal accountability. Observers are keenly watching the unfolding developments as Tinubu finalizes his ministerial selections.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had on Wednesday confirmed that President Bola Tinubu was planning a cabinet reshuffle.
Onanuga said Tinubu has ordered his ministers to ensure they engage the public by publicising what the government is doing in their various ministries.
He said, “I don’t have any timeline. The President has expressed his desire to reshuffle his cabinet and will do it. I don’t know whether he wants to do it before October 1, but he will surely do it.”
Fashola, born on June 28, 1963, in Lagos, Nigeria, served as the Governor of Lagos State from 2007 to 2015. A graduate of the University of Benin, Fashola began his career in law before transitioning into public service. His administration also emphasized healthcare and waste management, promoting sustainability initiatives. After leaving office, he was appointed as Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Works and Housing, where he continued to advocate for infrastructure development.
Fashola’s leadership style is characterized by a commitment to accountability and transparency, earning him respect across party lines. He remains an influential figure in Nigerian politics, known for his pragmatic approach to governance and urban development.
