Senator Nenadi Usman, Chairman of the Labour Party National Caretaker Committee (LP-NCC), revealed that the party’s swift intervention during the September 4 Stakeholders meeting in Umuahia prevented the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from deregistering the party.

Usman shared this information with journalists after the committee’s inaugural meeting in Abuja on Thursday. She emphasized her commitment to an open-door policy and inclusiveness, stating, “At the September 4 meeting in Umuahia, no faction or group within our party emerged defeated. We all won together as one political family, and this unity allowed us to avoid deregistration by INEC, which could have resulted from lacking a legally acceptable leadership structure.”

She added, “My goal is to be remembered for uniting a party once divided, transforming it into a strong, election-winning force nationwide.”

Usman urged those with grievances to come forward and collaborate with her committee. She said, “Let us work together to fulfill our mandate of organizing unifying state congresses across the country, culminating in a transparent and inclusive national convention. This will elect a new NEC and NWC for the party and, ultimately, the next leadership of our nation.”

She also highlighted that without the intervention on September 4, INEC might have had no choice but to deregister the party.

Meanwhile, Professor Theophilus Ndubuaku, acting Chairman of the NLC Political Commission, urged members to resolve their differences and support the committee’s efforts to advance the party.
