Seven people have been killed and two others injured in a multiple road crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the Ibafo area of Ogun State.
The accident occurred at about 12:03am on Monday, August 24, 2026, along the Ibafo–Lagos corridor at Kara, Ibafo.
The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Abeokuta by the Chief Superintendent Route Commander, Afolabi Odunsin.
According to the FRSC, nine male passengers were involved in the crash, with seven losing their lives and two sustaining injuries.
Three vehicles were involved in the accident: a white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC, a white MACK trailer and a Mitsubishi Canter.
Odunsin said the FRSC Ibafo Outpost received information about the crash at about 4:04am and arrived at the scene five minutes later.
The agency identified speed violation as the probable cause of the crash, although it noted that further investigation was ongoing.
The deceased victims were evacuated from the scene by the Ogun State Ambulance Service, while the injured were taken to a medical facility for treatment.
The damaged vehicles were subsequently handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force in Ibafo for further action.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, to avoid excessive speed, maintain safe following distances and remain vigilant while driving.
He also advised motorists to exercise greater caution at night, citing reduced visibility and fatigue as factors that could increase the risk of crashes.
Ogunjobi expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.Two headline suggestions:
