The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service (NHFSS) had uncovered a kidnappers’ hideout nestled within the depths of Anam forest in Anambra-West Local Government Area.
Deputy Commander-General of NHFSS (Technical Services), Amb. Dr. John Metchie, revealed that the operation, executed on May 31, 2024, was launched based on actionable intelligence. D.O Odanike and Ojukwu spearheaded the expedition into the forest.
Within the dense foliage, NHFSS officers stumbled upon an abandoned Toyota Sienna vehicle and a cache of weapons, including a pistol, an AK47 rifle, locally made firearms, assorted vehicle license plates, charms, and other incriminating materials.
Metchie praised the bravery of Odanike, Ojukwu, and the entire Anambra State Command for their pivotal roles in the operation, emphasizing the indispensable contribution of hunters to national security. He advocated for greater recognition of hunters’ contributions by the Nigerian government.
Acknowledging the dedication of ACG Mark Okemefuna Okonkwo, Southeast Commander of NHFSS, and the leadership of Commander-General Dr. Joshua Osatimehin, Metchie highlighted their commitment to ensuring NHFSS officers carry out their duties with utmost professionalism.
Additionally, Metchie noted that NHFSS officers continue to pursue the suspected kidnappers who fled the scene, with the recovered vehicle and items handed over to the Nigeria Police Area Command for further investigation and action.
