The Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) has dismissed claims by former Minister of Sports Development and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Solomon Dalung, that Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, had not visited Plateau State since the polls.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesman, Idris Zekeri Jnr, the media office described Dalung’s assertion as “false and unfounded,” insisting that Obi had made several visits to the state since the conclusion of the 2023 general elections.
According to the statement, Obi has visited Plateau on multiple occasions, including spending nights in the state twice, with the visits attracting widespread public and media attention.
POMR said Obi’s engagements in Plateau were motivated by humanitarian, political and strategic considerations rather than electioneering, particularly in response to recurring communal violence and insecurity affecting parts of the state.
The media office noted that Obi had visited communities in Bokkos, Mangu, Bassa and Barkin Ladi to commiserate with victims of attacks and internally displaced persons (IDPs). It added that he had also provided financial assistance, relief materials and supported clean water initiatives for displaced families.
The statement recalled that Obi marked his 62nd birthday in July 2023 with displaced persons in Mangu Local Government Area instead of holding a formal celebration, describing the gesture as a demonstration of solidarity with victims of violence.
It further stated that Obi had maintained regular engagements with traditional rulers, including the Gbong Gwom Jos, as well as state officials, underscoring what it described as his sustained interest in the North-Central region.
According to POMR, Obi’s visits have focused on humanitarian interventions, interactions with local communities and drawing national attention to the security challenges confronting Plateau State.
The media office maintained that Dalung’s claim was inconsistent with the facts and urged the public to disregard it.
