The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the conferment of the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on 68 legal practitioners.
The decision was reached at the committee’s 174th plenary session held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, according to a statement issued by the LPPC Secretary and Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Kabir Akanbi.
Akanbi said the SAN rank is awarded in recognition of outstanding professional excellence by lawyers who have distinguished themselves either as courtroom advocates or as legal scholars with significant contributions to the development of jurisprudence.
He stated that, in line with the directives of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), all successful candidates must attend and successfully complete the mandatory pre-swearing-in induction programme before the rank is formally conferred. The date for the programme will be announced later.
The LPPC also warned the successful applicants against publishing or encouraging the publication of congratulatory advertisements, goodwill messages or promotional notices relating to their nomination or conferment.
According to the committee, the directive is in line with Paragraph 25(1) of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Guidelines and Rule 39(3) of the Rules of Professional Conduct, 2023. It noted that any violation of the provisions could attract sanctions.
The successful applicants are scheduled to be sworn in as Senior Advocates of Nigeria on Monday, October 12, 2026.
Among those elevated to the rank are Ibrahim Gamdeh Adamu, Jude Chukwuemeka Okafor, Goodwill Achibong Umoh, Sunday Samuel Obende, Adebayo Olugbenga Adaralegbe, Jimson Ejovi Okodaso, Olalekan Lawrence Bade-John, Olaotan Thomas Olusegun, Philemon Audu Daffi, Adenrele David Adegborioye, James Eromosele Agbonhese, Alexander Nduka Muoka, Onome Okodiya, Emmanuel Akunke Akomaye and Ikhide Ekhighelua.
