Nigeria Community Research Consortium (NCRC), a socioeconomic organisation in Delta State, has tasked well endowed Nigerians to be more engaged in humanitarian and philanthropic activities as part of efforts to emancipate less privileged citizens, thus contributing to national development.
The organization however maintained that its cardinal goals were anchored on societal reorientation on hero-worshipping of wealthy people who acquired wealth illegally.
The President of NCRC, Dr. Joe Oharisi made the submissions during the fourth edition of the organisation’s honour and merit award held over the weekend in Ughelli, the administrative headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
While urging the awardees to continue in their humanitarian and philanthropic activities that led to their recognition, he enjoined them to identify with and assist their communities in the areas of essential grassroots community needs such as provision of hand-pump potable water, construction of roads and markets as well as establishment and renovation of schools, among others.
Eleven awardees including some traditional rulers were honoured at the event.
They included HRM Oba (Barr) R. O Ajayi, the Gemini of Ekitiland; HRM Dr. Matthew Ediri Egbi, Owahwa II, the Okobaro of Jeremi Kingdom; HRH Ibok, Jacob Okon, the King of Abia-Edi community Akwa-Ibom; Rev. Dr Isaac Chichah, zonal coordinator, Church of God Mission; Prof. Johnson Egodotaire of the University of Port-Harcourt as well as Dr. Ala Solomon and Hon. Okiemute Oviri who are special assistants to Delta State Governor.
Speaking with newsmen at the event, the awardees remarked that the gesture would spur them to contribute more social responsibilities and development to the society.
Also, the chairman on the occasion, HRM Richard Ogbon, Oghoro II the Ohworode of Olomu kingdom appealed to the awardees to continue to live life of righteousness and remain good ambassadors of the country
