Bello El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, has defected from the ruling APC to the ADC alongside three other members of the House of Representatives.
Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, announced the defections during plenary on Thursday after reading letters submitted by the lawmakers.
Bello El-Rufai joined the African Democratic Congress alongside two Kaduna lawmakers formerly of the PDP — Reps Umar Ajilo and Suleiman Yahaya Richifa.
Also, Rep. Kamilu Ado of Kano State dumped the ADC for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, while Rep. Joshua Obika, representing the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the FCT, left the APC for the NDC.
The lawmakers attributed their defections to internal crises and uncertainty within their former political parties.
The latest wave of defections comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with emerging parties seeking to attract influential politicians from the major parties.
