Peter Obi on Thursday held a high-level meeting with Bala Mohammed in Bauchi, as part of ongoing consultations aimed at fostering national unity and addressing pressing challenges facing the country.

Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and a prominent figure in the opposition, said the visit formed part of broader efforts to build collaboration across regions and political divides. He noted that the engagement, which included notable Igbo leaders, focused on advancing a vision of a united, secure, productive, and inclusive Nigeria, particularly one that prioritises the welfare of the less privileged.

Describing the discussions as “insightful,” Obi reiterated his optimism about the country’s future, maintaining that “a new Nigeria is possible.”

Governor Mohammed, who received the delegation at the Government House, said the meeting provided an opportunity to deliberate on key national concerns, including economic recovery and citizens’ welfare. He commended Obi for the visit, noting that such engagements are crucial in promoting mutual understanding and developing practical, people-oriented solutions.

According to the governor, both leaders also examined the evolving political landscape and stressed the need to strengthen democratic institutions. They jointly called on political actors and stakeholders to set aside partisan interests and prioritise the nation’s collective good.

The meeting comes amid increasing political realignments and consultations ahead of future electoral cycles, with key actors seeking common ground on governance, economic reforms, and national cohesion.
