A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Monday held its first National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja.

The development follows months of internal crisis within the party, which led to the sealing of its secretariat in November last year after a leadership tussle between the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) and a caretaker committee headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed. Both groups had laid claim to the party’s leadership.

However, the situation shifted in March when the Court of Appeal nullified the Ibadan convention that produced the Turaki-led NWC.

A video shared by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, captured the FCT minister arriving at the secretariat for the meeting, where he was joined by party elders and representatives from various states.

Key figures expected at the NEC meeting of the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led faction include former Senate President Bukola Saraki and former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.

The meeting marks a significant step in the ongoing power struggle within the PDP as rival factions continue to assert control over the party’s structure.
