The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, in the sum of N1 billion over a 16-count money laundering charge. His wife and co-defendant, Hajia Bashir Asabe, was also granted bail of N500 million, bringing the total bail to N1.5 billion.
In a ruling delivered on Wednesday, Justice Emeka Nwite ordered each defendant to provide two sureties in like sum and barred them from travelling out of the country without the court’s permission. The court further directed that the defendants remain in custody until all bail conditions are met.
Malami was arraigned alongside his son, Abdulaziz, and his wife, who was identified as an employee of Rahamaniyya Properties Limited, a firm allegedly used to launder illicit funds through property transactions. The case was adjourned until February 17 for trial.
