The Ijaw National Congress (INC) has issued a strong warning against any attempt to impeach Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, stating that such a move would lead to severe economic repercussions for Nigeria.

The warning comes in the wake of the blockade of the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex, which prevented Governor Fubara from presenting the 2025 budget as mandated by the Supreme Court.

The INC also condemned the actions of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of attempting to incite ethnic conflict between the Ikwerre and Ijaw communities through his remarks and political maneuvers.

Reacting to the ongoing political crisis on Wednesday, INC President, Professor Benjamin Okaba, said the actions of the lawmakers reveal their lack of concern for peace and the well-being of Rivers people, suggesting instead that they are advancing Wike’s personal agenda.

“These lawmakers are acting in this manner because Wike personally funded their elections. He handpicked them and even admitted this publicly. This is why I’m not surprised by their actions,” Okaba stated.

Professor Okaba further criticized the blockade of the Assembly Complex, asserting that Fubara’s decision to adhere to the Supreme Court ruling should not be interpreted as weakness.

“Some people claim Fubara is weak, but he is simply respecting the rule of law. He assured the President that he would implement the Supreme Court’s judgment. So why should these lawmakers obstruct him from entering the Assembly?” Okaba asked.

The INC President also pointed out the contradictions in the lawmakers’ actions: “These same lawmakers issued ultimatums—first
