Translate our constitutions into native languages – CRIMMD founder urges N/ Assembly

Dr. Raphael James, the
Director General and Founder of the Centre for Research, Information, and Media Development (CRIMMD) Dr Dr. Raphael James has called on the Senate and the House of Representatives to pass a bill that would facilitate the translation of the Nigerian Constitution into various indigenous languages. He made this appeal during a 45-minute interview on the “Close Flow” program on NTA 2 Channel 5 on Monday, March 10, 2025.

Dr. James, who also runs Nigeria’s pioneering private Museum of History with nearly 45,000 photos and thousands of artifacts, emphasized that many Nigerians are fluent in their native languages but may struggle with English. He argued that these individuals should not be denied the opportunity to fully understand their rights under the Constitution.

A well-known historian and educational tourist, Dr. James has visited 35 of Nigeria’s 36 states and documented over 610 tourist sites. He is the publisher of African Dame and The National Biographer magazines, an author of over 23 published books, and has donated more than 70,000 books to schools across Nigeria as of February 14, 2025. In addition, he has run a free public library for the past 20 years, housing over 45,000 books. Dr. James is the recipient of 290 awards for his contributions to education and cultural preservation.
