Former Kaduna Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has cast doubt on Governor Uba Sani’s loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His comments came in response to Sani’s recent interview on TVC, where the governor expressed surprise over the growing criticism of Tinubu’s administration from some founding members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

El-Rufai took to his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, alleging that Sani’s unwavering support for Tinubu was tied to over N150 billion in federal reimbursements granted to Kaduna State over the past 18 months. He said, “Every day I see this governor embarrassingly and sycophantically rambling, I used to wonder why? However, confirming that Federal Government ‘reimbursements, interventions, and grants’ in excess of N150bn have been given selectively to Kaduna by Tinubu in the last 18 months now explains everything.”

El-Rufai further remarked, “By all means, defend Asiwaju for the conditional cash transfer. Asiwaju has earned it, coming from you. The people of Kaduna State will judge at the right time and place. Have a nice day.”

In his TVC interview, Governor Sani had criticized some APC members for publicly opposing Tinubu’s policies, calling their actions “unfortunate” and “undemocratic.” He expressed surprise at the coalition of politicians who, at such a critical time, made statements against the president, with some even urging citizens to take laws into their own hands.

Sani urged Tinubu’s critics to bide their time until the 2027 elections if they believed they had the popularity to challenge the president, adding, “We’re in a democratic dispensation, with just about two and a half years to the next election. Any politician who feels they can defeat Bola Ahmed Tinubu or the APC should work hard and present themselves in the next election.”
