The decomposing body of missing University of Nigeria Nsukka(UNN) 100-level student, Favour Okenyi has been found.

Favour a student in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science of the university, went missing on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, after attending her chemistry practical class.

Her body was discovered in a drainage behind the Eni-Njoku male hostel, near Akanu Ibiam Stadium, on the evening of Friday, July 5.

“She was found dead on Friday. “The corpse was already decomposing. Her remains were evacuated to the UNN Medical Centre in the morning,” a business owner inside the stadium said

Some sources alleged that the corpse was covered by flood debris, implying that the student might have been washed away by flood.

However, a student of the Faculty of Physical Science of the university, who identified himself as Paul, said, “She must have been killed by Yahoo Boys who are rampaging Nsukka now. They are exploiting our female students at Nsukka because these boys have too much money. They might have killed her, and used the gutter to cover their nefarious act. Our female students should learn that these boys driving exotic vehicles are looking for them for money rituals.”

A pastor, James Itodo, said, “This is the end time we are talking about. This first year student might have fallen the victim of these boys who make money at all cost. I wouldn’t know what killed her, but where her corpse was found doesn’t convince me that flood caused her death. Her killers might have dumped her there as a cover-up.”

A security staff member of the university, on condition of anonymity, said, “Some vital parts of her body were cut off. So the corpse might have been kept in the gutter before the rainfall that flooded the corpse. But from every indication, her death won’t be unconnected with ritual killers.”

Reacting to the development, the spokesperson of UNN, Okwun Omeaku, in a statement on Sunday said the institution was saddened by the loss, adding that the Management is collaborating with security agents to unravel the cause of the incident.

Part of the statement made available to Vanguard read, “The University of Nigeria community was shocked on Friday, July 5, 2024, by the distressing discovery of a lifeless body found in a drainage near Akanu Ibiam Stadium, UNN.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased, Okenyi Favour Oluchukwu,  was a first-year student enrolled in our Department of Medical Laboratory Science.

“The University administration is deeply saddened by the loss of our student and extends heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased for the tragic death of such a promising young student.

“The management is collaborating with security agencies and the family of the deceased to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death and prevent any potential recurrence of such incidents in the future.

“We implore anyone in possession of useful information that could aid in the investigation to kindly reach out to the University administration.”
