Man Killed over debt of N700

A Magistrate Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State capital has remanded a middle-aged man named Funmilayo Asojo at the Correctional Center  for allegedly killing a peacemaker, Bamiduro Adewole, with a stone.

The defendant was said to have killed the deceased while settling a rift between himself and a man who owed him (Asojo) N700 on December 28, 2022.

The unfortunate incident took place in  Ute, a community in Ose Local Government Area of the state.

The late Adewole, 59, who was a security guard in a public primary school in the community was hit with a stone in the head by the defendant. Adewole was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died two days after.

The defendant was arraigned on one count charge of murder.

According to the prosecuting officer, the offence contravenes sections 319 and 355 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. 37 Vol. II Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The police prosecutor, Augustine Omhenemhen, urged the court to remand the defendant in the Correctional Centre at Olokuta, pending the outcome of advice from the State Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

In his ruling, the Magistrate, R.O. Yakubu, ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison and adjourned the case till March 19, 2023.
