Giacomo Raspadori scored twice to help Victor Osimhen’s Napoli thrash Calvin Bassey and his Ajax side 6-1 at home in their third Group A game on Tuesday night.
Super Eagles forward Osimhen missed the game, as he’s still recovering from an injury, while fellow national team compatriot defender Bassey played the full 90 minutes.
But Bassey couldn’t help his team avoid the heavy defeat at the hands of the better informed Napoli team at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Ghanaian youngster, Mohammed Kudus, continued with his impressive scoring form to put Ajax in the lead nine minutes into action, before Raspadori equalised for Napoli with the same time interval.
Giovanni Di Lorenzo put Napoli ahead moments later before Piotr Zieliński doubled the visitors’ lead just a few minutes before the half time whistle as Napoli went into the break with a 3-1 advantage.
Napoli started the second half from where they left it in the first as Raspadori got his brace of the night to increase Napoli lead by a three-goal margin.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia turned up to score The Blues’ fifth goal of the night before Ajax were reduced to 10 men minutes later after Dušan Tadić was given the marching order.
Giovanni Simeone, who came on for Raspadori, netted his second goal in this year’s tournament to seal the victory for Napoli as the Italian side walked home with a massive 6-1 victory and the maximum points in the bag.
The victory sent Napoli to top of Group A with a 100 per cent record and 11 goals difference so far in this year’s competition.
