President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has celebrated the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, on his 70th birthday, describing him as a forthright, upright, loyal and committed ally.

Tinubu, in a birthday tribute issued on Monday, October 5, said his several decades of close relationship with Alake had convinced him of the minister’s steadfastness and commitment to excellence.

The President said Alake was a man whose position on issues was always clear and unequivocal, noting that he had built an impressive reputation for hard work, excellence and an unwavering commitment to delivering results.

“On the occasion of his 70th birthday on October 6, I rejoice with him, his immediate family, friends, and associates. I celebrate with him for the grace of joining the Club of Septuagenarians,” Tinubu said.

The President also praised Alake’s lifelong commitment to equity and social justice, particularly his contributions to journalism and public service.

According to Tinubu, Alake excelled as a frontline journalist and editor, using his pen to confront social and political problems affecting the country.

He particularly recalled Alake’s role during the military era, describing him as a journalist of conscience who stood against dictatorship, human rights abuses and the denial of democratic governance.

Tinubu also highlighted Alake’s eight-year tenure as his Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Lagos State, saying the minister brought creativity and enterprise to government communication and information management.

He said Alake’s ability to operate effectively in unfamiliar and challenging environments had continued to distinguish him in public service.

Tinubu commended his current role as Minister of Solid Minerals, saying his work had continued to attract local and international recognition.

He also noted Alake’s leadership as Chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG), saying he had earned the confidence of colleagues across the continent.

“On his 70th birthday celebration, my prayer for Dele is that the Almighty grant him more years in good health as he continues his service to God, country, and humanity in general,” Tinubu said.

The President concluded his tribute by describing Alake as his “confidante, brother, and buddy” and wished him many more years of happiness and service.
