Sepp Blatter has been re elected as FIFA President, after his rival Ali dropped out.
Blatter will serve a fifth term as president of Fifa.
The 79-year-old won Friday’s election in Zurich to retain his seat at the head of football’s governing body, as Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein dropped out after the first round.
The Swiss was first elected Fifa president back in 1998 ahead of Uefa counterpart Lennart Johansson, while his last re-election – back in 2011 – saw six countries abstain from voting in protest over his leadership.
The announcement comes against a backdrop of controversy after 14 Fifa members were arrested in a £65 million corruption probe into alleged bribes paid over 25 years.
Uefa president, Michel Platini, yesterday called for his European associates to vote against Blatter, citing ‘enough was enough’ in a final bid for change to way football in run.
But Friday’s result casts doubt of the future involvement of European countries in Fifa competition.
