ASUU shuns talks with FG as another meeting ends in deadlock

Students in the federal and state universities may have to stay at home longer than expected, as another meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) ended in a deadlock on Tuesday.
The latest meeting was convened by Vice President Namadi Sambo.
However, ASUU officials kept away from the meeting as Sambo he met only with the government functionaries in the sector. Those present were the acting Minister of education, Nyesom Wike, the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Julius Okojie and the Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan, Prof Isaac Adewole.
The last meeting presided by Sambo on the strike was attended by the President of ASUU, former Presidents of the Union as well as key officials.
At Tuesday’s meeting, none of the attendee volunteered to address State House correspondents who had been waiting for briefing.
Other members of the team who came out of the venue of the meeting before the acting Education Minister had said that he would brief but that did not happen as Wike jumped into his waiting car.
The nation’s University lecturers have been on strike in the last four months, pressing for release of huge amount of money to upgrade infrastructure as well as payment of outstanding allowances.
