National Assembly runs N450bn 3-year budget without breakdown

National Assembly has run a yearly budget of N150 billion since 2011 without the breakdowns, it has been learnt.
This is contrary to its oversight rules in Ministries and Parastatals, as it has always insisted that these government agencies should show a breakdown of their budget as well as get approval from the House.
Both chambers stated a budget of N150 billion annually but the breakdown of the budget has not been made public unlike the budget of Ministries, Department and Agencies.
Briefing newsmen on Thursday, the leader of the Senate, Victor Ndoma Egba confirmed that the budget of the National Assembly in this year alone is N150 billion.
Meanwhile, the National Assembly may have spent the sum of N4 billion on the review of 1999 constitution amendment process in three years.
This year alone both chamber spent N2 billion on the review of the constitution In the previous amendment done by the National Assembly the lawmakers
In the 6th Senate between 2007- 2011, not less than N4billion was spent by both chamber.
Breakdown of shows that in 2008 N1 billion was budgeted for both chamber, in 2009 N1billion was also made available while, N2 billion was spent in 2010 for the review of 1999 constitution.
It was gathered that N1.2 billion made available in the appropriation bill for the review in 2011 for both chambers and also in 2012 N1.2billioin might have been provided as efforts to see details of the National Assembly budget proved abortive and not less that N2billion was made available in 2013 budget.
The Constitution review organized in the 6th National Assembly N1 billion was budgeted yearly by the National Assembly for the review till its conclusion.
According to facts gathered N1 billion in 2008 page 672 of detailed recurrent and capital expenditure of 2008 appropriation amendment act.
In the 2010, N2billion was made available for the same process on page 908 according to detailed of 2010 appropriation act.
