Son of a former Head of State, Mohammed Abacha, has said that the PDP leadership has the ability to ensure internal democracy in the party.
He said this on Monday in Abuja when he formally returned to the PDP as a member after defecting from the party in 2010.
Mohammed, who was received by Mr Uche Secondus, the PDP Deputy National Chairman, said that he had a wide consultation with his associates within and outside the party before taking the decision.
He told newsmen after a closed-door meeting with the party`s National Working Committee (NWC) that he returned to contribute his quota to the development of the party in Kano state.
“We are back because, we have since realised that there is no other political party like the PDP.
“And we look forward to contribute within the best of our ability to ensure that the PDP triumphs in Kano state,’’ he said.
He said that he left the PDP in 2010 because the party lacked internal democracy then.
Mohammed, however, debunked the insinuations that he was rejoining the party to wrestle the party state executive from the state government.
He insisted that he had come to help build the Kano state PDP.
Mohammed left the PDP in 2010 for the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) to contest as Kano state Governor.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Hassan Kafayos, has appointed as the Chairman of the newly inaugurated Caretaker Committee of the PDP in the state, while Mr Andrew Musa would serve as Secretary of the committee.
The 11-man committee is expected to put in place a new executive for the Kano PDP chapter within the next three months.
Only the chairman and the secretary of the committee were formally inaugurated by the party`s National Legal Adviser, Mr Victor Kwom.
The other nine members of the committee are expected to be inaugurated at a later date in Kano by the committee chairman.
The tenure of the existing executive of the state expired on August 15.
Elders of the state’s chapter had on Sept. 10, notified the party`s National Working Committee (NWC) of the expiration of the existing state executive.
Hassan in his acceptance speech said the committee would work with all members to ensure its victory in 2015.
The party’s National Chairman,Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, had urged the committee members to work hard to ensure that the party emerged victorious in Kano state in 2015.
He said that there was the need for the committee and party members in the state to work harder because the party had strong oppositions in the state.
Tukur said that the national leadership would continue to support the committee and party members to ensure the success of the party in the state.
