Nigerians in China have applauded President Goodluck Jonathan over the approval of a Consulate in the China’s southern commercial city of Guangzhou, a request that has been long overstretched by teeming Nigerian nationals residing in the “Chocolate City”.
It would be recalled that in his recent visit to China during the largest Nigeria Business Forum ever held in the city of Beijing, President Jonathan heeded to the call by Nigerians in Guangzhou to establish a Consulate in the city where a majority of Nigerian businessmen in China reside.
Some of the Diaspora Nigerians who attended the reception organised by the Nigeria Embassy in Beijing, expressed gladness that their wish for a Consular office had been granted.
“You see, because of lack if a consulate here, many of our families can not come over here as a result of stringent policies that do not allow Nigerians resident in China to bring their families, in most cases, apart from short term visits not exceeding one month, some never succeed and will have to resort to other chances”.
Daily Review Online gathered that Nigerians are the largest group of Africans in China and about 80 per cent of them resides in China’s commercial capital city of Guangzhou. They contributes to about 75 per cent SME’s activities in Guangzhou.
Recently when the Minister of Finance, Dr. Okonjo Iweala visited the city of Guangzhou, she was impressed at the magnitude of the throng of Nigerians business owners she witnessed.
Speaking on investment, the Minister of State for Trade and Investment Dr. Sam Ortom in one of his visits earnestly pleaded with tNigerian businessmen to return home and invest when he saw the massive business enterprise Nigerians in China were engaged in.
