The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared its determination to unseat Governor Ademola Adeleke in the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, unveiling a 291-member National Campaign Council to spearhead its bid to reclaim power in the state.
Speaking at the inauguration of the council in Abuja on Tuesday, APC National Chairman, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, described the election as a crucial test for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence that the APC would emerge victorious.
Yilwatda said the calibre of party leaders, governors, National Assembly members and National Working Committee officials mobilised for the campaign demonstrated the APC’s readiness to return to the Bola Ige Government House in Abere, Osogbo.
He said the party had developed a comprehensive grassroots strategy covering all 3,762 polling units in Osun State, with governors and lawmakers assigned to coordinate campaigns across the state’s senatorial districts.
Chairman of the Campaign Council and Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, described the assignment as a responsibility that required discipline, commitment and hard work.
He said the council would engage voters across the state, promote the APC’s programmes and work towards returning Osun to what he described as the progressive fold.
Uzodimma pledged that the party would run an issue-based campaign and would not be distracted by misinformation or political attacks.
“Our assignment is to earn the confidence of the people of Osun State and convince them to vote for the APC. We will respond to falsehood with facts, propaganda with performance and provocation with peace,” he said.
The APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), thanked President Bola Tinubu and the party leadership for assembling senior party figures to drive the campaign.
He said his consultations across the state’s 30 local government areas and 332 wards indicated that many residents desired a change in leadership and were ready to embrace the APC and the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to Oyebamiji, the people of Osun are eager for what he called a “rescue mission” that would restore progressive governance and improve the state’s development.
The inauguration was attended by members of the APC National Working Committee, governors, National Assembly leaders, ministers, presidential aides and other party stakeholders from across the country.
