APC dominates by-elections, wins Enugu, Ondo, Kano, Nasarawa seats, PDP wins Rivers

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the winners of Saturday’s by-elections held in several states, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) securing victories in most of the contested seats.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recorded its only win in the Rivers South-East Senatorial District.

The by-elections were conducted to fill vacancies created by deaths, appointments and other circumstances affecting representation at both the National Assembly and state assembly levels.

Enugu

APC candidate Ikeje Asogwa won the Enugu North Senatorial District seat with 162,360 votes, defeating PDP’s Nestor Ezeme, who polled 9,299 votes.

The election was held to replace the late Senator Okey Ezea, who died on November 18, 2025, at the age of 62.

Kebbi

In Kebbi State, APC’s Rabiu Garba Aiki won the Zuru State Constituency seat in the State House of Assembly with 4,887 votes.

His closest challenger, Aliyu Galadima Muhammad of the Labour Party (LP), secured 168 votes.

The seat became vacant following the death of former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru.

Kano

APC candidate Rabiu Shuaibu emerged victorious in the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election with 35,356 votes.

He defeated Lawal Garba-Haruna of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), who polled 268 votes, and Abubakar Yahaya-Muhammad of the Labour Party, who secured 98 votes.

The election was conducted following the death of former lawmaker Muhammad Danjuma-Hassan of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Rivers

PDP candidate Olaka Nwogu retained the Rivers South-East Senatorial District for his party, polling 47,961 votes to defeat APC’s Osar Erewari, who garnered 1,647 votes.

The seat became vacant following the death of Senator Barry Mpigi in February.

Ondo

In Ondo State, APC’s Dayo Faduyile won the Ondo South Senatorial District by-election with 68,474 votes.

He defeated Adeolu Akinwunmi of the APM, who secured 1,411 votes.

The election followed the appointment of former senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Nasarawa

APC candidate Danladi Envulu-Anza won the Nasarawa North Senatorial District by-election with 45,362 votes.

Labour Party candidate Labaran Maku scored 12,931 votes, while PDP’s Emmanuel David Ombugadu polled 11,570 votes.

The election was conducted across Nasarawa Eggon, Akwanga and Wamba local government areas to fill the vacancy created by the death of Senator Godiya Akwashiki, who died after a prolonged illness.
