Reps minority caucus appoints Afam Ogene spokesperson to strengthen public engagement

The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has appointed Hon. Afam Victor Ogene as its new spokesperson.

The appointment was approved during an online meeting of the caucus held on Friday, June 19, 2026, according to a statement issued on Saturday by the Minority Leader, Hon. Fredrick Agbedi.

Ogene, who represents the Ogbaru Federal Constituency, is the leader of the Nigeria Democratic Party Caucus in the House of Representatives.

The Minority Caucus described him as a ranking legislator and respected parliamentarian with extensive legislative experience, a strong grasp of parliamentary procedures, and a firm commitment to defending democratic principles.

A statement signed by Hon. Fredrick Agbedi, leader, Minority Caucus, House of Representatives, said Ogene will be responsible for articulating the caucus’ positions on national issues, strengthening communication with Nigerians, and advancing its constitutional responsibility of holding the Executive accountable.

The caucus also highlighted Ogene’s background as an award-winning journalist and editor, expressing confidence that his appointment would enhance its engagement with citizens and reinforce the principles of checks and balances within the 10th National Assembly.

It added that his experience in both journalism and legislative affairs would further improve the caucus’ ability to communicate its activities and policy positions to the public.

The Minority Caucus called on members of the media and the general public to support Ogene in the discharge of his new responsibilities.
