Adams Oshiomhole has dismissed concerns over opposition coalition talks ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that internal divisions among opposition leaders would hand victory to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Speaking during a television interview, the senator representing Edo North described former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the APC’s “best campaign manager,” alleging that Atiku’s criticisms of Peter Obi were weakening opposition unity.
Oshiomhole also pointed to the growing exchanges between Obi and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, saying the disagreements among opposition figures would ultimately benefit the APC in the next presidential election.
The former Edo governor maintained that opposition parties lacked a clear alternative agenda for Nigerians and challenged them to state which of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies they intended to reverse if elected into office.
According to him, the opposition appeared united only by a desire to gain power rather than by concrete policy ideas. He defended Tinubu’s administration, saying the president had taken bold economic decisions aimed at repositioning the country.
Nigeria’s political atmosphere has continued to gather momentum ahead of 2027, with opposition leaders exploring alliances to challenge the APC. Atiku, Amaechi and other political figures are currently associated with the African Democratic Congress, while Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have reportedly aligned with the Nigerian Democratic Congress amid disagreements over the ADC.
Meanwhile, the APC has approved a waiver exempting Tinubu from screening ahead of the party’s presidential primary.
