Social media was thrown into mourning on Tuesday following viral reports alleging that popular Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has died at the age of 40.

The reports gained momentum after fellow actor Godwin Nnadiekwe shared an emotional post on Instagram suggesting that the actor had passed away.

In the post, Nnadiekwe wrote, “I’m struggling to find the words. This news has truly broken me. Nollywood has lost a rare soul, and I’m lost for words because this wasn’t the plan, Alex Ekubo.”

He further added, “To think you already prepared your will — it’s a heartbreak I can’t quite describe. Rest well, my friend.”

The emotional tribute quickly went viral, sparking widespread reactions from fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry, many of whom flooded social media with condolence messages and expressions of shock.

Earlier reports had claimed that Ekubo died on Monday after an alleged battle with cancer, noting that the actor had been absent from social media for several months. His last known social media post was reportedly made in December 2024.

However, as of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from the actor’s family, management, or Nollywood authorities regarding the claims surrounding his alleged death.
