President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s internal security architecture and improve inter-agency coordination.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

According to the statement, signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations, Chris Ugwuegbulam, the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to enhancing intelligence-driven operations and tackling emerging security threats across the country.

A circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, noted that Major General Fadewa’s appointment was based on his extensive military and intelligence experience spanning more than three decades.

The statement described the retired officer as a highly decorated military strategist with expertise in counter-terrorism operations, intelligence coordination, and international security diplomacy.

Fadewa previously served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021. During his tenure, he reportedly played a leading role in establishing the Intelligence Fusion Centre, a multi-agency intelligence platform designed to improve collaboration among Nigeria’s major security and intelligence agencies, including the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces.

Following his retirement from military service, Fadewa became a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, where he contributed to policy discussions on policing, civil-security cooperation, and national security reforms.

He is also credited with authoring the monograph, “Policing and National Security in Nigeria,” which proposes strategies for improving cooperation between civil authorities and security institutions.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the retired general would bring his experience and strategic expertise to bear in advancing the administration’s security objectives and supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The President also urged Fadewa to deploy his professionalism and intelligence background toward improving homeland security coordination, intelligence integration, and proactive risk management across the country.
