Arsenal booked their place in the UEFA Champions League final for the first time in two decades after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid at the Emirates Stadium, sealing a 2-1 aggregate win.
The decisive moment came just before half-time when Bukayo Saka reacted quickest inside the box to fire home from close range, sending the home crowd into wild celebrations and keeping alive the club’s dream of European glory.
The victory marks a significant milestone for manager Mikel Arteta, whose side have now reached their first Champions League final since 2006. That previous run remains a historic reference point for the North London club, but this current squad is forging its own legacy.
In addition to reaching the final, Arsenal have also set a new record for the longest unbeaten run in a single Champions League campaign, surpassing the previous mark held by Real Madrid during the 2023/2024 season.
The semi-final clash was anything but straightforward. Atletico Madrid, boasting experienced players such as Antoine Griezmann and Jan Oblak, applied early pressure and came close to scoring on several occasions. However, Arsenal’s defence, marshalled by Gabriel and Declan Rice, held firm under sustained attacks.
Rice delivered a commanding performance in midfield, driving the team forward and playing a crucial role in both defensive recoveries and attacking transitions. His energy and composure were instrumental in seeing out the tense encounter.
Despite late pressure from the Spanish side, Arsenal maintained their narrow advantage until the final whistle, sparking emotional celebrations among players and supporters alike.
The result signals a turning point for Arsenal, who are now on the brink of winning Europe’s most prestigious club competition for the first time in their history.
