Manchester City surged to the top of the Premier League title race after edging Burnley 1-0, ending Arsenal’s 200-day reign at the summit.
The decisive moment came early, as Erling Haaland latched onto a pass from Jérémy Doku in the fifth minute to score his 24th league goal of the season. The win followed City’s crucial 2-1 victory over Arsenal days earlier, a result that significantly shifted momentum in the title race.
Despite the narrow victory, City may rue missed chances, with Haaland and Rayan Cherki both hitting the woodwork, while Nico O’Reilly squandered a clear opportunity. The result leaves City and Arsenal level on 70 points and identical goal difference, but City leads on goals scored.
Just weeks ago, City trailed Arsenal by nine points after a draw with West Ham United. However, a run of three consecutive wins, coupled with Arsenal’s recent slip-ups, has completely transformed the title race.
The defeat also confirmed Burnley’s relegation after only one season back in the top flight.
Elsewhere, Leeds United struck deep into stoppage time to secure a dramatic 2-2 draw against AFC Bournemouth. Sean Longstaff’s late equaliser denied Bournemouth a chance to climb into the top six, while Leeds moved further clear of the relegation zone.
