Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 31 worshippers who were abducted during an Easter service in Ariko Village, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The incident occurred after terrorists stormed an ECWA Church in the community, taking several congregants hostage during the service. Following a distress call, soldiers swiftly mobilised to the area and, with support from local residents, pursued the attackers.
According to a statement released on Sunday, the troops engaged the fleeing terrorists in a gun battle and overpowered them. The sustained pressure forced the attackers to abandon 31 captives, including one injured victim who is currently receiving medical care.
However, the Army confirmed that five victims were killed by the terrorists, and their bodies were recovered at the scene. Blood trails along the escape routes suggest that the fleeing assailants may have suffered significant casualties.
Security forces have since intensified operations to track down the perpetrators, rescue any remaining captives, and bring those responsible to justice. Additional troops have also been deployed to reinforce security and prevent further attacks in the area.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing operations.
