The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the killing of 33 people following an armed attack on Bui District in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

Police spokesperson Bashir Usman said the attack stemmed from a cattle-rustling incident allegedly carried out by suspected Lakurawa militants.

According to preliminary investigations, the attackers reportedly entered Bui District from Gudu Local Government Area in neighbouring Sokoto State to rustle cattle. Residents from surrounding communities mobilised in response, leading to a deadly confrontation.

The Police Command said additional personnel have been deployed to the area in collaboration with the military and other security agencies. Area domination patrols and tracking operations are ongoing to restore calm and apprehend the perpetrators.

Authorities urged residents to report suspicious activities through official security channels and avoid direct confrontation with armed groups.

Security has been reinforced in the affected communities as investigations continue.
