Nollywood actress Ajara Lasisi, popularly known as Aunty Ajara, has died after a prolonged illness.

Her death was announced on Thursday by Nollywood director Tobi Oladele Teemony, also known as Tee Mony, via a statement shared on Instagram. According to the statement, the actress passed away overnight after battling illness for a long period.

Teemony said Aunty Ajara received overwhelming love, prayers, and financial support from well-wishers during her illness and expressed gratitude to everyone who stood by her.

He also appealed to the public to stop sending donations to the account earlier shared for her medical treatment, noting that further financial contributions were no longer needed.

The announcement was accompanied by a video message from her elder brother, Ridwan Lasisi, who confirmed that doctors pronounced her dead on Thursday morning. He thanked the public, industry colleagues, and supporters for their concern and generosity, while reiterating the appeal to halt further donations.

Aunty Ajara’s death comes about a week after Nollywood colleagues, including Ronke Oshodi Oke, appealed for urgent financial assistance as her health condition reportedly worsened despite ongoing treatment.

Earlier reports indicated that the actress was battling a liver-related illness and had been hospitalised as her condition deteriorated. Several Nollywood stars had publicly rallied support for her during the period.

She is survived by family members and colleagues in the Nigerian film industry.
