President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly overnight terrorist attack on Worro community that left several villagers dead.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said the new military command would lead Operation Savannah Shield, aimed at flushing out terrorists and protecting vulnerable communities in the area.

Tinubu condemned the attack, describing it as cowardly and barbaric, and accused the assailants—suspected Boko Haram terrorists—of deliberately targeting defenceless civilians in what he called a “doomed campaign of terror.”

The President expressed anger over reports that the attackers killed villagers who resisted attempts to indoctrinate them with extremist ideology, noting that the victims chose to practise a form of Islam rooted in peace and dialogue rather than violence.

He commended members of the community for rejecting extremism, saying their stance reflected courage and moral clarity despite the grave risks involved.

President Tinubu also directed federal and state agencies to work together to provide relief and support to the affected community, while ensuring that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.

He prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and extended his condolences to bereaved families, as well as to the people and government of Kwara State.
