The Ogun State Government has, for the second time, suspended the process of selecting a new Awujale of Ijebuland.

The decision was conveyed in a letter dated January 20, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government. The letter was signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat.

According to the directive, the local government chairman was instructed to inform the kingmakers to immediately halt all activities related to the selection process and await further instructions from the state government.

The suspension followed a fresh petition submitted to the government by Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1). The petition was signed on his behalf by his legal counsel, Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN).

This development comes amid heightened interest and tension surrounding the succession process for the Awujale stool.
