Lagos to host 2026 Black African History Global Iconic Award

In a significant development for the celebration of African excellence, the Black African History Global Iconic Award (BAHGIA) is set to take place on July 5, 2026, in Lagos.

This prestigious event aims to honour the giants of African history—both past and present—while inspiring future leaders.

Founded by Love-Patra Ekufu, President of BAHGIA, the initiative focuses on recognising influential figures who have made notable contributions to various fields.

In a recent discussion with Hon. Ebube Ebisike George, Minister of Trade for the State of the African Diaspora (SOAD), Ekufu emphasised the award’s importance in merging culture, history, and modern advancements achieved by the Black race.

As a premier platform advocating for Black excellence, BAHGIA 2026 will spotlight transformational leadership across Arts, Sciences, Politics, and Economics.

The event is poised to gather a distinguished lineup of visionaries, including:

Eric Matthew Masaba: A Ugandan-British polymath known for his groundbreaking patent on geolocation technology that has elevated the global tech industry.
-HRM Engr. Eberechukwu Oji: The Eze Aro of Arochukwu Kingdom and President of the Africa Energy Fund, recognised for his ambitious $2.4 billion acquisition of Shell’s assets, driving energy sovereignty for Africa.
– Maxwell Chikumbutso: A Zimbabwean innovator whose work in microsonic wave technology is set to revolutionise energy solutions worldwide.
– Dr Tyrone Moodley: Founder of the Ndeipi Foundation, championing a decentralised and gold-backed economic system aimed at financial inclusivity through innovative technology.
-Governor Alex Otti: Celebrated for his commitment to citizen-centric governance and transformative political initiatives.

BAHGIA 2026 is more than just an awards ceremony; it is a historic convergence of influential figures dedicated to celebrating and advancing Black heritage.

The awards will cover 14 categories, highlighting exceptional individuals who are driving transformative changes and fostering advancements vital to the civilizational progress of the Black community globally.
