President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles for winning the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), praising the team’s resilience and fighting spirit after a difficult semi-final exit.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the President commended the Nigerian national team for putting behind them the disappointment of their semi-final loss to host nation Morocco and bouncing back to secure third place at the tournament.

The Super Eagles defeated seven-time champions Egypt via penalties after dominating regulation time in the third-place match, a performance President Tinubu described as a clear demonstration of Nigeria’s determination and perseverance.

According to the President, the players once again showcased the “can-do spirit” for which Nigerians are known, refusing to be discouraged by earlier setbacks.

“Despite their good run during the tournament, the Eagles lost the semi-final match to Morocco during the penalty shootout last Wednesday, and our people’s hopes of winning the championship were dashed,” Tinubu said.

“However, our players remained undaunted, and exhibiting the resilience of the Nigerian spirit, their efforts have now paid off.”

President Tinubu said Nigerians would be proud as the team receive their hard-earned bronze medals on Sunday in Rabat, Morocco, adding that the achievement is worthy of national celebration.

“Thank you, our gallant Super Eagles. Thank you, our national team players. This bronze medal surely feels good like gold,” the President remarked.

The congratulatory message was signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, and dated January 17, 2026.
