A Lexus RX300 SUV has rammed into five children in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, leaving one child suspected dead and four others critically injured.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) said the incident occurred on Sunday at about 2:31 p.m. at Wole Olateju Crescent, off Admiralty Road, Eti-Osa Local Government Area. Firefighters from the Oniru Fire Station responded after a distress call.
According to the LSFRS Controller-General, Margaret Adeseye, the SUV, with registration number GGE 750BM, lost control while speeding and struck five male children aged between eight and 13 who were standing at the gate of a residence. Four children were rescued alive and rushed to a hospital by bystanders, while a nine-year-old boy was suspected dead at the scene.
The damaged vehicle was towed to the Maroko Police Station, and the police have taken over the investigation.
In a separate incident later on Sunday, firefighters from the Ajegunle Fire Station rescued two adult men trapped inside a broken-down fuel tanker opposite Ecobank in Apapa at about 4:47 p.m. The men were safely extricated and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Ms Adeseye commended the prompt response of emergency personnel and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to saving lives and property across Lagos.
