Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Saturday visited former President Goodluck Jonathan at his Abuja residence, marking their first publicised meeting since Jonathan returned from an election monitoring assignment in Guinea-Bissau.
Atiku shared photos from the visit on Sunday, describing the encounter as a pleasant reunion.
“It was a pleasure catching up with former President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday evening, following his recent return from Guinea-Bissau,” he wrote.
The visit came days after Atiku officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing concerns about the departure of his former party from its founding ideals. His move has stirred conversations about political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
There are strong indications that Atiku may emerge as a leading presidential contender within the coalition being built by the ADC, which has continued to position itself as an alternative to Nigeria’s dominant political parties.
