Italy has joined the United States in raising concerns over the growing attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria.

Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, in a statement posted on X, condemned what she described as “renewed violence” targeting Christians. She said the situation had become unacceptable and called for urgent action.

“We strongly condemn the renewed violence that has taken place against Christian communities in Nigeria. Religious freedom is an inviolable right,” Meloni said.

She urged the Nigerian government to enhance protection for all religious groups and ensure that perpetrators of the attacks are brought to justice.

The Prime Minister added that Italy “expresses its closeness to the victims and to communities in Nigeria who today feel in danger because of their religious beliefs,” signalling Italy’s alignment with growing international concern over alleged targeted killings.
