Troops repel Boko Haram/ISWAP attack on Mallam Fatori base, neutralise scores

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Joint Task Force North East, have successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kangar, located at Mallam Fatori in Borno State. The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, November 4, 2025, was launched by Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters.

According to a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, the terrorists began their assault around 4:30 a.m., deploying armed drones and mortar fire in a coordinated attempt to breach the base’s defensive positions.

However, the troops, reinforced by the Main Force from the Battalion under Sector 3, displayed exceptional courage, tactical superiority, and resilience. Supported by close air support from Nigerien Fighter Ground Attack aircraft, they successfully repelled the assault after a fierce firefight.

“The terrorists, overwhelmed by the superior firepower and coordination of the joint force, retreated in disarray into the waterways of the Tumbuns, evacuating several of their casualties,” the statement read.

A post-battle search of the area confirmed the neutralisation of six terrorists and recovery of a cache of arms and equipment, including five AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, 258 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, five RPG bombs, four armed drone bombs, five hand grenades, two bandoliers, and one Android phone.

Follow-up air interdiction missions by the Nigerian Air Force, in collaboration with the Nigerien Air Force, further neutralised additional fleeing terrorists.
