Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has joined the global community in celebrating teachers on this year’s World Teachers’ Day, emphasizing the urgent need to address the global shortage of educators.
In her goodwill message marking the occasion, themed “Focusing on the Global Teacher Shortage,” the First Lady described teaching as one of society’s noblest professions and called for greater investment in teachers’ development and welfare.
“The shortage of teachers is a challenge we must confront with urgency, by empowering educators, investing in their growth, and inspiring more to join this noble profession,” she stated.
Senator Tinubu, who reflected on her background as a lifelong teacher, paid tribute to the vital role teachers play in shaping future generations.
“Teachers are true heroes, shaping minds, nurturing dreams, and guiding generations,” she said, expressing deep appreciation for their dedication and impact on national development.
She concluded her message with warm wishes to all educators across Nigeria and beyond, saying, “As a lifelong teacher myself, I salute you all on this special day. Happy World Teachers’ Day 2025.”
World Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually on October 5 to honor the invaluable contributions of teachers and advocate for policies that enhance the teaching profession globally.
