President Bola Tinubu on Friday declared that Nigeria’s economy has begun to recover, assuring citizens that the benefits of his administration’s reforms will soon be felt across the country.

Speaking in Ibadan, Oyo State, at the coronation of his long-time ally, Oba (Sen.) Abdul-Rashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, the President said the turnaround was made possible through the support and sacrifices of Nigerians.

“Today, I am honoured to bring the cheering news that our economy has turned around and there is now light at the end of the tunnel,” Tinubu said. “The reforms we introduced are succeeding because of your endurance, patience, and support.”

The President praised the new Olubadan, describing him as a courageous leader who played a vital role in Nigeria’s democracy, particularly during his tenure as Oyo State governor when he overcame an impeachment attempt.

“Today is a happy day for Kabiyesi and also for me. I pray that you will live long and be celebrated as one of the rare leaders in history to ascend the throne of your forefathers,” Tinubu added.

Governor Seyi Makinde, who presented the staff of office and certificate to Oba Ladoja, said the coronation had put an end to lingering disputes surrounding succession to the throne. “There is no more rancour about the kingship in Ibadanland. The process is now sacrosanct,” the governor said.

In his acceptance speech, the Olubadan expressed gratitude to God and acknowledged the responsibilities that come with the throne. He thanked President Tinubu for honouring him and the people of Ibadan with his presence.

The ceremony was attended by top political and traditional leaders, including Governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), and Ademola Adeleke (Osun), as well as former governors Donald Duke, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Ibikunle Amosun, and Gbenga Daniel.

Also present were the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye.
