Justice Musa Liman of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday returned a motion filed by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to the Chief Judge for reassignment.

Kanu, in the motion ex parte, is seeking an order to be transferred to the Abuja National Hospital for urgent medical care. His lawyer, Uchenna Njoku, applied for the reassignment, noting that the court’s annual vacation ended the same day.

The State Security Service (SSS) counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo, did not oppose the application. Justice Liman explained that with over 30 cases listed for hearing, the vacation court could not accommodate Kanu’s matter, which was filed late.

Kanu’s legal team argued that his health had deteriorated in detention, citing medical reports indicating problems with his pancreas, liver, a lump under his armpit, and dangerously low potassium levels. They said doctors had recommended his immediate transfer to the National Hospital.

The motion, earlier filed through senior lawyer Kanu Agabi (SAN), is part of Kanu’s ongoing trial before Justice James Omotosho on terrorism-related charges.(NAN)
