The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit has impounded 668 commercial motorcycles and arrested seven suspects during a week-long enforcement operation across the state.
The exercise, which began on August 11, was led by the agency’s chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, and targeted areas including Iju-Ishaga, Ijegun, Iyana-Iba, Iyana-Ishasi, Igbo-Elerin, Iyana-School, and sections of the Lagos-Badagry and Lagos-Abeokuta expressways.
The task force said the action followed complaints that commercial motorcyclists were being used by criminals to attack commuters and tricycle operators, especially at night.
During the operation, hoodlums and some Okada riders attempted to resist officials at Kola Bus Stop, but security personnel dispersed them without casualties.
“All seized motorcycles will be forfeited and crushed as directed by the state,” agency spokesperson Raheem Gbadeyan said. He warned operators to avoid restricted routes or face prosecution.
The task force noted that the crackdown was part of efforts to curb crime, maintain traffic order, and safeguard lives and property in Lagos.
