The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reaffirmed its readiness to challenge and unseat the Bola Tinubu-led administration in the 2027 general elections, insisting that the absence of serving governors in its fold does not weaken its resolve or popularity.

Speaking after a high-level political consultative meeting in Abuja on Saturday, ADC spokesman, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, said many serving governors are hesitant to align with the ADC due to fear of intimidation from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). However, he emphasized that the party enjoys overwhelming support from ordinary Nigerians dissatisfied with the country’s current direction.

“We know what the APC-led government is doing to intimidate serving governors. That’s why many of them are cautious. But this is not about political elites—this is a movement backed by the Nigerian people,” Abdullahi said.

He dismissed predictions that the ADC would collapse within six months of its formation. “First, they said we were dead on arrival. Then they gave us six months. But we are still here—and growing. This coalition reflects the genuine frustration and aspirations of Nigerians who are hungry, struggling, and desperate for change,” he declared.

The spokesman assured that the ADC would resist any attempts to rig the 2027 elections. “Let no one deceive themselves—votes will count. We are ready to counter any rigging tactics by the APC,” he said.

Prominent figures at the meeting included former Senate President and Interim National Chairman, Senator David Mark, former SGF Babachir Lawal, former Attorney General Abubakar Malami (SAN), Senator Dino Melaye, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, and other northern political leaders.

Senator Mark emphasized that the ADC was gaining momentum, especially in northern Nigeria. “The North is bleeding profusely. ADC has the Midas touch to heal it. We must unite for peace and social cohesion,” he said.

Lawal also dismissed doubts about electoral integrity, urging Nigerians to prepare for a fight at the ballot box. “Forget the fear that votes won’t count. We will make them count. Whatever tricks the APC throws, we are ready to counter and defeat them,” he vowed.

Babachir Lawal added that northern stakeholders have given their mandate for regional transformation using the ADC as the vehicle.

The party also addressed concerns about possible hijack by a cabal, assuring that its internal structures are designed to ensure democratic accountability and transparency.
