President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt birthday wishes to Nigeria’s Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, as the iconic literary figure clocks 91 years.

In a press statement issued on Saturday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu lauded Soyinka as a “globally renowned literary icon” whose life and works have left an indelible mark on literature, activism, and nation-building.

“Professor Soyinka is an uncommon patriot who has continued to demonstrate his undying love for our country,” the statement read. “Even at the grand old age, he continues to be a source of inspiration to fellow citizens and people around the world.”

President Tinubu celebrated Soyinka’s immense contribution to education, human rights advocacy, cultural diplomacy, and the global literary scene, describing him as a “massive source of inspiration” to generations of younger writers, both in Nigeria and internationally.

The President also reflected on his long-standing association and collaboration with the Nobel Laureate, emphasizing their shared efforts in promoting national development.

“I value my association with Professor Soyinka and several collaborations to advance the progress and development of Nigeria,” Tinubu said.

As the literary titan embarks on what the President described as “the last decade of his centennial,” Tinubu wished Soyinka continued good health and mental vitality.

Soyinka, who became the first African to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1986, is globally celebrated for his plays, poems, essays, and unwavering commitment to justice and freedom.

The statement concluded with President Tinubu offering gratitude on behalf of the nation for Soyinka’s lifelong service to Nigeria and humanity.
